Possibility! Scholarship

One lucky Newaygo County resident will head to college in 2013 thanks to a full scholarship from the Fremont Area Community Foundation.

The Possibility! Scholarship will pay for in-state tuition, fees, course-required books, and supplies up to $25,000 per year for up to four years. The possible total award is $100,000!


Requirements and Eligibility
  • Applicant must be a Newaygo County high school senior or a Newaygo County resident
  • Applicant must be seeking an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university or be entering a career certification program in Michigan within 12 months of scholarship award
  • Applying for the Possibility! Scholarship does not count as an application for any other available FACF scholarships
  • Winner of the Possibility! Scholarship is not eligible to win any additional FACF scholarships
  • The Possibility! Scholarship shall be classified and awarded as last dollar to ensure that all other eligible aid is utilized first 
  • The Possibility! Scholarship complies with all existing FACF scholarship policies
  • FACF Board, staff, and their children and grandchildren are not eligible to apply
Potential Applicants
Applicants are divided into two groups for tracking purposes and have slightly different options to earn the 6 points to enter the scholarship drawing. The two groups are as follows:

Group A High school seniors with an official College Advising Corps adviser at their school (Fremont HS, Grant HS, Hesperia HS, Newaygo HS, and White Cloud HS only).

Group B High school seniors without a College Advising Corps adviser at their school or nontraditional students with at least a 1-year gap in their education.

  • To be eligible for the drawing, applicant must earn a total of 6 points. These points, or “steps to success,” are listed below
  • Each group has 8 possible point-earning activities. 4 activities from the list are required; applicants can choose 2 from the remaining 4 to reach a total of 6 points
  • The FACF Profile Form (tab above) will serve as each applicant's entry into the drawing. Applicants will check off the 6 items they have completed and enter their essay
  • Applications (FACF Profile Form) can be submitted online beginning January 1, 2013
  • Applications (FACF Profile Form) must be submitted online by 11:59:59 PM (midnight) on March 1, 2013
  • One winner will be announced in late spring 2013
Selection Process
  • The Possibility! Scholarship will follow the same deadlines as our regular scholarship season (January 1−March 1)
  • All applications (FACF Profile Form) must be submitted online by 11:59:59 PM (midnight) on March 1, 2013
  • A random drawing will be held to select 10 names
  • At that time, all 10 finalists will be vetted for eligibility (legitimate completion of 6 points)
  • Finalists must also supply two additional items: their Student Aid Report (SAR) and a FACF Financial Form
  • If any of the 10 finalists are disqualified for any reason, the FACF will randomly select the additional number of finalists required to bring the total back to 10. The new finalists will be notified immediately and given 4 days to present the required application materials
  • The vetted applications will then go to a panel for blind review
  • The panel will select 1 winner based on the student’s essays and financial reports
  • This winner will be announced in late spring 2013
2013 Timeline

  • January 1 Application opens online at www.possibilityscholarship.org

  • March 1 Application closes online at 11:59:59 p.m. (midnight)
  • March 4 FACF randomly draws 10 names
  • March 7 10 finalists are notified via email; all documentation requested

  • March 11 Documentation must be submitted to FACF by 4:30 p.m
